The accuracy with which the words are given by St. Matthew 14: 27 shows the impression which the incident made on the minds of the disciples. To hear the familiar tones and the Cheering words was enough, even, amid the howling of the minds and the dashing of the waves, to give them confidence and hope, we can scarcely doubt that in after years that moment came back to their recollection, invested for them, as it has since been for the Church at large, with something of a symbolic character

“ often the sky became dark, and the waves of the troublesome world were rough, and the blast of persecution beat on them, and the ark of christ’s Church was tossed on the waters, and they were wearied and spent with rowing. They thought themselves abandoned, and them in the dim twilight they would see or feel one again the token through the storms “ Be of good cheer ” became the watchword of their lives.“

Hebrews 6: 17 – 19 ” accordingly God also, in His desire to show more convincingly and beyond doubt to those who were to inherit the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose and plan, intervened ( mediated ) with an oath…” This is the evidence of the assurance that whatever God says have already been done in His realm.

We are in this world as a ship at sea tossed up and down, and in danger of being cast away. We need an anchor to keep us sure and steady. Gospel hope is our anchor in the storms of this world. It is sure and steadfast, or it could not keep us so, the free grace of God, the merits and meditation of Christ, and the powerful influences of his Spirit, are the grounds of this hope, and so it is a stedfast hope. Christ is the object and ground of the believer’s hope.

Colossians 1: 16  revealed the fact that He is the cause of the Creation.” all things were created by him and for him ”

They are the productions of his unsearchable wisdom and almighty power, and were made by him, that he might possess, and govern them, and be glorified in and be glorified in and by them – All things were and are, compacted in him unto one system, and preserved therein and that he is the cement, as well as support of the Universe.
